આમ કહેનારનો સંકેત મરણની સુંદરતા તરફ હશે? <br />
કે લગ્નની ભયંકરતા તરફ?<br />

‘મરવું’માંથી વાસ આવે છે <br />
બાકસમાં પુરાયેલા કાનખજૂરિયાની, <br />
કોહવાતા લાકડાની, <br />
મરઘાના ખાતરની, <br />
વરસોથી ન ખૂલેલા, હવડ, હવાબારી વગરના <br />
સંબંધની, <br />
‘લોટામાં ચાર પાન મૂકો સાહે...બ, કાંઠલે દોરો બાંધો, <br />
હવે શ્રીફળ પધરાવો, ચાર બાજુએ ચાર ચાંદલા કરો, <br />
અક્ષત લગાડો, હાથમાં ઊંચકીને ત્રણ વખત માથે અડાડો, <br />

ફ્રાન્સવાળાઓએ કાચી કુમળી વયે બાંધીને બાળ્યું, <br />
પારધીવાળાઓએ અંગૂઠે વીંધ્યું,<br />
ગ્રીસવાળાઓએ પ્યાલી પાઈ, <br />
યહૂદીવાળાઓએ ખિલ્લે ઠોક્યું,<br />
તોયે સાલું હેં હેં કરતું ઊભું જ છે, અમર, <br />
આ ‘મરવું’<br />

જોઈએ ત્યારે મારું વા’લું ન મળે,<br />
આડે હાથે મુકાઈ જાય.<br />
ગોતો કેરોસીનના બળબળતા ઉજાસમાં, <br />
રેલવેના આટેપાટે,<br />
છલકાવો ટીક-ટ્વેન્ટી ઓન ધ રૉક્સ,<br />
