આજ તો પોષ મહિનાની પૂનમ આવી છે. ભાઈની નાની બહેન આજ આખો દી ઉપવાસ કરશે. આજ તો બહેન પૂનમ રહી છે.<br />
થાપેલાં છાણાંથી તો રંધાય નહિ, એટલે બહેન સૂંડલી લઈને વગડામાંથી અડાયાં વીણી લાવે છે. સાંજે એક બોઘરણું ને એક લોટો લઈને પોતે જ નદીએ પાણી ભરવા જાય છે. જતી જતી ગાય છે કે —<br />

ઊટકીને એનું અરીસા જેવું નાનું બેડું ભરી આવે છે. સાંજે તો બહેન નાહી છે, ધોઈ છે, બહેને તો અગાસીએ ચૂલો માંડ્યો છે. બહેન રસોઈ કરે છે : અગાસી હોય તો અગાસીએ, નીકર છાપરા વગરની ગમે તે જગ્યાએ : પણ ઉઘાડા આભ નીચે.<br />
સોળે કળાનો ચંદ્રમા ચડ્યો છે. બહેનના રાંધણામાં તો તેનાં કિરણોમાંથી અમી વરસે છે. હોંશેભરી બહેન રાંધે છે.<br />
અને રાંધણું પણ શું? પહોંચ હોય તો ચૂરમું, ને ન પહોંચ હોય તો ચોખા. એને મન તો ચોખા પણ બત્રીસ જાતનાં ભોજન જેવા મોંઘેરા છે.<br />
બીજી બનાવે છે ઘઉંની એક ચાનકી. ચાનકીની વચ્ચોવચ પાડે છે એક કાણું. ચાનકી ચંદ્રમા આડે ધરી, કાણા વચ્ચેથી ચંદ્રમાની સામે નિહાળીને બહેન બોલે છે :<br />
