<ref>કિનકેઈડ સાહેબે બહારવટિયાનાં આવાં કેટલાંક કાઠિયાવાડી રણગીતોને ‘બૅલડ’ નામ આપી, અંગ્રેજી ભાષામાં ઉતાર્યાં છે, પોતે ભાષાન્તર કરવામાં અતિશય છૂટ લેતા હોવાથી એના અનુવાદો અસલ ગીત કરતાં સરસ થાય છે; અને કેટલીક વાર તો જૂનાં સાથે મેળવવા જતાં પંક્તિઓ મળતી નથી. નીચેનું ‘બૅલડ’ આ ગીતનું જ ભાષાન્તર હોવાનું દીસે છે, એમાં કેટલીક પંક્તિઓ મળતી નથી, કેટલીક વધુ ઘટનાઓ વર્ણવી છે. કદાચ એ ઘટનાવાળી મૂળ પંક્તિઓ મારા શોધેલા ગીતમાંથી ઊડી ગઈ હશે. ‘આઉટલૉઝ ઑફ કાઠિયાવાડ’ના પાના 38 પર એ લખે છે કે —

O! fair Kodinar, she stands on the cursed  

Mahratta’s lands,  

their tears had no avail.  

When the king of Okha looted Kodinar.

Then a mighty feast he made for the  

twice-born and the Dhed,  

emptied not his plate,  

When the lord of Gomti looted Kodinar.

And they revelled late and longer, and they  

chanted many a song.  

and they thumped the kettle drum,  

When the prince of Dwarka looted Kodinar.

And he gave with open hand to each  

maiden in the land.

નિસરણીયું માંડીને ગામમાં ઊતર્યા ને,  

કોડીનાર મારીને જોધોભા ગાદીએ બેઠા ત્યારે,  

કોડીનારનો ધણી કોઈ ન થાય. — ઓખેજો.

રંગડા વાઘેરને દેવાય.— ઓખેજો.

ખરે રે બપોરે બજારું લૂટિયું ને,  

બ્રાહ્મણ સૈયદુંને દાન તો દીધાં ને,  

ગાયું કેરે ગોંદરે નીર્યા કપાસિયા ને,  

દેશ પરદેશે કાગળો લખાણા ને,  

હૈયાની ધારણે બોલ્યા રે નથુનાથ
