<p style="text-align: justify">પરમ પૂજ્ય નાથજી જીવતા હતા ત્યારે તેમના મિત્રો તથા તેમના પ્રત્યે આદરભાવ ધરાવનારા અનેક પ્રશંસકો તરફથી તેમને લાંબા અરસાથી વિનંતી કરવામાં આવતી હતી કે તેમણે પોતાની આત્મકથા લખવી. તેમની સાધનાના અનુભવો તેમના જ હાથે લખાય તો શ્રેયાર્થીજનોને પુષ્કળ માર્ગદર્શન મળશે. આ ઉદ્દેશથી મિત્રો તેમને વારંવાર વીનવતા રહેતા. પણ કોઈ પણ પ્રકારની પ્રસિદ્ધિથી નિત્યે દૂર રહેવાના તેમના સ્વભાવને કારણે તેઓ મિત્રોની વિનંતી માન્ય કરતા નહોતા. તોપણ છેવટના દિવસોમાં તેમણે સ્વ. રિષભદાસજી રાંકા પાસે પોતાના જીવનના મહત્ત્વના પ્રસંગો લખાવી દેવાનું સ્વીકાર્યું. પણ તે લખાણ પાછું વાંચતાં તેમને સંતોષ થયો નહીં, તેથી તેઓ જે પ્રસંગો ટેપ પર ઊતરાવતા તે નોંધતા ગયા.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify; margin-top: 20px;">છેવટની માંદગીમાં તેમણે એવી ઇચ્છા દર્શાવી કે જેટલી સામગ્રી ભેગી થઈ છે તે ઉપરથી જીવનવૃત્તાંત તૈયાર થઈ શકતું હોય તો તે કામ શ્રી ભાઉ ધર્માધિકારીને સોંપવું. તેમના દેહાવસાન પછી અમે તે કામ પાર પાડવાની શ્રી ભાઉસાહેબને વિનંતી કરી, અને અમને કહેતાં આનંદ થાય છે કે શ્રી ભાઉસાહેબે અમારી વિનંતી માની. આ રીતે બધી નોંધો, સ્વ. રિષભદાસે ટાઇપ કરી રાખેલ સર્વ કાગળો તથા ટેપરેકર્ડો અમે ભાઉસાહેબને સુપરત કર્યાં.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify; margin-top: 20px;">શ્રી ભાઉસાહેબે અતિશય પરિશ્રમ કરીને ઝીણવટભરી દૃષ્ટિથી બહુ જ થોડા સમયમાં સામગ્રીનું સંકલન કર્યું અને મૂળ મરાઠીમાં આ જીવનચરિત્ર તૈયાર કર્યું, તે માટે અમે તેમના ભારે ઋણી છીએ.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify; margin-top: 20px;">પૂજ્ય નાથજીએ તત્ત્વજ્ઞાનના અને અધ્યાત્મના ક્ષેત્રમાં એક સ્વતંત્ર અને મહામૂલું સંશોધન કર્યું છે. તે તેમના ‘વિવેક અને સાધના’ એ પુસ્તકમાં વિસ્તારપૂર્વક પ્રતિપાદિત કર્યું છે. પૂ. નાથજીનું આ જીવનચરિત્ર જિજ્ઞાસુ વાચકોને સમજવામાં ‘વિવેક અને સાધના’ ઘણું ઉપયોગી થશે એવી અમને ખાતરી છે.</p>
